Personality: Danny is one of the special few who can keep a secret to the grave, as long as it isn't his alone. He is fiercely loyal, and believes that everyone has a good nature, no matter how deeply buried. He is also very forgiving. No matter how many times you cross him--short of physically hurting him or someone close to him--he'll always forgive and forget. The past doesn't matter much to him, nor does the future. 'Planning' is a word that rarely crosses his mind. As an immortal being, tomorrow doesn't really matter to him. Despite his age, he can be rather childish at times.
Daniel has a habit of saying whatever is on his mind, no matter how stupid it sounds. Those thoughts are usually accompanied with 'it sounded better in my head'. However, he does come up with some pretty profound insights, those these little gems are rare.
Family: His mother, Layla, died about thirty years ago. He still visits his father, Emil, from time to time. To the extent of his knowledge, he has no siblings.
History: His father's side of the family are all wealthy, their money having accumulated from generations of faking deaths and passing the family company on to a son or daughter. Emil's life promised to be easy from early on. He wasn't spoiled, but he always had what he needed. From an early age, all Harper children are taught the virtue of hard work and dedication, to prepare them to take over the company should the need arise. Luckily, Emil had an older brother who took over for him.
Daniel's parents met when Layla was just a child; they actually grew up together. They were best friends through school, though Emil attended only when necessary. Towards the end of high school, they began dating. Their relationship lasted after graduation, even when Layla went off to college without him. She returned with a Master's Degree in English. Though they never married, they still lived together in a small, rural town. Layla became a teacher, and gave birth to Daniel in her early thirties. Around this time was when she noticed Emil hadn't aged past twenty. She handled the truth well.
In 1925, when Daniel was around three, his father saw a story in the paper about a Siberian Husky named Blato that had saved many lives in Alaska. There was a picture of the dog as well. As soon as Danny saw it, he shifted into a dog, though his new form was more wolfish than Husky. His parents were ecstatic; partly because he finally managed to use his powers, and partly because he wasn't in a public place when it happened. The only problem was he didn't know how to change back. The poor kid spent weeks as a dog before figuring out had to return to his human form. After that, he found a dog was all he could turn into, and since then, he has learned how to use this 'disability' into an advantage.
As soon as Danny turned twenty-one, he set off on his own. He accepted enough money from his grandfather to reach Silverthorn Crossing, and has decided to wing it from there.
