Personality: Emil is not the type to take charge in most situations. He'd rather hang back and watch the scene unfold until someone actually asks him for help. On the rare occasions he volunteers advice, it's wise to listen, because it's usually correct. He's a very patient man as well. Whenever someone is too stubborn to listen, he just bides his time until they cave. He's got all the time in the world to prove he's right, after all, and he won't hesitate to tell you when you've screwed up. Emil is very knowledgeable about the world, which has turned him into a sort of walking dictionary. If you ever have a question about something, he most likely has an answer.
Emil is a deadpan snarker if there ever was once. He has a certain knack for sarcasm that he's honed over the years. Despite his seemingly emotionless persona, Emil is always ready to help others when he can, especially is someone really needs assistance. His son, Daniel, is very important to him.
Family: His mother Annette and his father Darius are currently living in the United Kingdom. He was married once, to a human, but his wife died decades ago. His son, Daniel, is the reason he came to Silverthorn Crossing in the first place.
History: Emil's family is very successful, to be honest. He was trained to take over the company if the need arose, but he was never interested in it. His older brother thankfully took over the company as planned, so he never had to worry about it.
He lived in the UK up until he was ten; he and his parents moved to the United States. There was a girl about his age, Layla, who lived across the street. They went to school together, though Emil didn't much care for it. He only attended so he could be around her. Around their Junior year, they finally started dating after their friends kept pushing them together. Emil didn't plan to go to college, but he supported Layla in her efforts. Not many women graduated from college at the time, but Layla did. She became a teacher. They lived together in their hometown, though they never married. Layla had begun to suspect something was odd about him a few years before Daniel was born. She wasn't sure what, though. After her son was born, she realized what it was; Emil wasn't getting any older. He told her the truth, that he was a shape-shifter--and therefore immortal--but she didn't care.
When Danny managed his first shift, Emil was ecstatic. Over time, they realized he could only turn into one animal, most likely due to his mixed blood. Despite this, Emil taught him everything he needed to know about his kind. He helped Danny practice changing forms often in hopes he could get over his disability, but to no avail.
Danny left home when he was twenty-one, just when he stopped aging. Emil and Layla was sad to see him go, but understood his need to see the world. Eventually, Emil managed to get into a college and become a doctor. Over the years, he's become functional in several languages, Italian and Spanish among them.
Emil stayed with Layla until the day she died. Even though Layla is gone, he still remains loyal to her. In the thirty some-odd years since her death, Emil has gone to college again, mostly for the fun of it. It keeps him up to date on the world. He returned to England for a couple of decades before following his son's trail to Silverthorn.
