So far, this town was living up to his expectations.
It was certainly rural enough, and small enough. Not to mention the number of other... Oddities that could easily mask his presence, as long as he didn't do anything stupid. He was going to college again, so he figured it was best to learn the layout of the library, just in case he needed to use it. This time, he was going to 'study' history for the second or third time, if you didn't count the years of grade school. Even so, Emil was careful not to let his scores get above average; he didn't want to draw attention to himself. He'd even gone through the trouble of enrolling himself as Emil Harper the Third in case someone managed to find information about him online.
Emil wasn't planning to do a whole lot for college, anyway. The only reason he was in Silverthorn in the first place was to visit his son. He hadn't seen him in nearly fifteen years. He figured he might as well attend the local college and learn about recent events.
It was around noon, so the library was mostly empty. The few people inside didn't pay him any mind as he wandered among the shelves, running a hand down the spines of the books. To be honest, he was looking to see if any of his had made it to the library, but he'd didn't spot any. Not that that's surprising.
One book caught his eye. It was large, easily five-hundred pages. The title was faded a bit, but he could make out the word 'Rome,' so he pulled it from the shelf and settled at a table to flip through it.

[atrb=width,400] the oncoming storm College was hard. Harder than anything Bree had ever done. She had just taken a test on the fundamentals of music, and now had a report to write on Shakespeare. She hadn't expected music and theater to be that hard in college, but it was. Tests, quizzes, reports projects. And she had to make a vlog every Friday. Her schedule was pretty packed. Luckily, she was finally getting the hand of it all. Her entire life was spent in the ocean, where she never had to work hard. But here, it was different. She had to remember to go get food, to pay for her own things, and to remember to clean her dorm. All these things had been done for her; now, life wasn't so easy. Bree didn't mind too much, though; she liked freedom. It was nice to be a little independent. Though she was still constantly forgetting everything...
Bree drifted through the rows, looking through the books to find one on Shakespeare. She snatched up the first one that popped out at her. It wasn't too big, it looked like it would give her the right information, and there wasn't endless pages of boring text. She slid into a chair next to an older college student. flipping through the pages with her eyes skimming the words, looking for where to start. Her eyes wandered, and Bree glanced at what the man she had sat down next to was reading. Something about Rome. That was a city, right? She had no clue about the geography of the land. She only new cities in the sea. She leaned over a bit, trying to read what the tiny text said, before suddenly remembering where she was. Her face was probably blocking the reader's view. She turned to the man, blushing. "Oh, I'm sorry! Your book looked interesting, and I got curious, so... sorry!" she stammered, her face turning a bright shade of red, sticking out among her normally snow-white skin.

The book wasn't one he'd read before, so even though he knew his history like the back of his hand, he still found it interesting enough to keep reading. The Roman Empire had always been a favorite of Emil's. It had first caught his attention when he was in high school, all those years ago. From then on, Nero was his favorite emperor for no other reason than he gave his favorite horse a high-ranking government position.
The origin of the city's name is thought to be that of the reputed founder and first ruler, the legendary Romulus. It was like reading a favorite story he hadn't read for a while. You know what's going to happen, but the details are a little fuzzy.
A young woman sat down next to him with a book of her own, but Emil didn't pay her much attention. Unlike him, she was probably here to work on something. It is said that Romulus and his twin brother Remus, orphans who were suckled and raised by a she-wolf, decided to build a city. After an argument, Romulus killed Remus and named the city-
His train of thought broke off when he realized the girl next to him was looking over his shoulder. What ever she was reading must be pretty boring for her to want to read something on Roman history. Even Emil would admit that it was a bit boring at times. Everything went in cycles. An empire would rise up, rule for a couple hundred years, then fall and be replaced by something else.
"Not a problem," he replied, raising a hand in a placating gesture. The girl was quickly turning scarlet. Must be the easily embarrassed type.
