Blood red hues stretched across the city as lights begun to flick on in preparation for the night. Katya wiped the remaining blood from her crimson lips with a napkin, a cruel reminder of what she was. Temperatures were on the cooler side that evening, though it was all the same to Katya. For a moment she looked at the crumpled, red stained napkin in her hand, recognizing the familiar feeling of disgust as it stole into her stomach. She knew she didn’t drink but for necessity, it wasn’t a sick joke or for fun by any means. That never lessened the pain for her, nor for her victims. It wasn’t any consolation in the slightest. However, self-pity was never the way to go in life and Katya did her best to suck it up, everyday of her life. Taking a deep breath, Katya threw the napkin into a city trash can and kept on walking through the streets of Silverthorn Crossing.
It always made her more vulnerable, after feeding. Her nose was clogged with the smell of blood for hours after, and she felt like a house cat that had been fed far too much: lazy and content. Apart from that, she was lost in her thoughts- worrisome thoughts that plagued her for hours. All in all, feeding hardly seemed worth it, even if it made her much stronger and faster for about a week.
For a fleeting moment, she thought of Christian LaRue, the angel who had kissed her, just a few nights before. It all seemed surreal, and they hadn’t seen each other since. She could actually forget that it had happened often times, though she didn’t want to.
Her black dress swirled around her calves in the slight breeze, untainted by blood, miraculously. Years of practice. Katya flinched at her nonchalant thoughts. It got worse over the years, she feared that she was slowly losing her humanity.

Azreal slunk silently through the shadows. Now that spring was endng and the nights were growing warmer, Azrael was now able to sneek out of the house at night to go trianing with her best friend and partner in crime, Slate, the feline shape shifter. At this particular moment they where playing a familiar game of cat and mouse, both being both cat and mouse. Whoever found the other first and wrapped their hands around their throat, not to actually choke them of course, wins. A rather morbid game, but it kept both the stealth and attack reflexes sharp, so it worked for their purposes.
It wasn't too long before Azrael saw a shape moving through the streets, and she began to follow, thinking that maybe Slate was being careless in their game, for once. As she drew closer, however, it became appearent that this wasn't Slate. No, this person was smaller, of slighter build, walked differently, and the list went on. Azrael smirked to herself. Maybe it was about time to have a little bit of fun with a kid walking the streets alone, at night. Sure, they might be supernatural, but really, what could go wrong?
Kappa, Azrael's familiar who was a large Havanna Brown cat, appeared to stand before the lone figure, meowing cryptically as his golden eyes flashed. Azrael came up behind the other girl quietly as Kappa generated a distraction. "A bit late for a leisurely nighttime stroll, isn't?" She said, smiling dangerously. After all, she just couldn't wait to try out the new spell she learned... which just so happened to make her able to call in a fog so thick you swam in it instead of walking.

It was quickly becoming dark, which was fine by Katya. Her eyes reflected the light that wasn’t there, eyes like a cat. Katya shaded them as she watched the retreating sun sink below the horizon and leave the world to be lit by dim streetlights. Pulling back stray hairs from her face, the vampire let her eyes wander, flickering across the low lit streets. It was quiet, very quiet to a human, only slightly less to a vampire. A few streets over, a car sped past, way over the speed limit and faded into the distance. The silence was unnerving, even to a vampire of almost a century.
It was quite something to feel hunted again. Watched. Chills ran up her spine as ice hands clutched at her heart. Her first thought was that Adrian had found her, and if he had, she couldn’t outrun him. In panic, she would think of the future and he’d see it, then she’d never get away from him. Katya’s fears were dashed as a cat appeared in front of her. Instead, she jumped slightly and stopped walking. A female voice spoke behind her, taunting.
“Not unless you’re afraid of the dark,”
Katya answered smoothly, turning to face her adversary. The relief bubbled in her stomach when she realized that it wasn’t Adrian, there was nothing to be truly afraid of now. However, Katya still didn’t like the way this girl was smirking, as if she knew something Katya didn’t. Masking her disquiet, Katya crossed her arms over her chest and watched the girl.

The girl's retort only widened Azrael's fey smile. She was going to have fun tonight! She saw relief flood the other girl's features, and mildly wondered who she was expecting. The grim reaper, perhaps? Well, what a disappointment for her. She'd soon learn that Azrael was more of a danger than her appearance made her believe. At least, until Slate decided to show himself. He was too protective to let her mess with people, Mortal or not.
"Perhaps you will have to be taught to fear the dark then," She said, raising her hand. It showed a burning fireball, not touching her skin, yet as realistic as if it was there. In reality, it was a very well-made illusion, even the light danced from it, and the heat was sent in waves. certainly this would scare her. Azrael wasn't really concerned with exposing her world to the girl. Who would believe her if she ran off and told someone she saw a girl who could control fire, anyway? Besides, in this world, there where no laws.

The girl’s smile grew. Relief of a moment ago wavered in Katya’s stomach. Uncertainty was a killer, and right now it was palpable in the air. Drawing a breath of steadily warming air, Katya stood her ground and kept her face impassive. It was obvious that this girl was trying to mess with the vampire, taunt her and make a fool of her. In Katya’s present mind, she knew that, but couldn’t shake the panic she felt in her thundering undead heart. In the past, Katya had only really dealt with subduing threatening Vampires. There was nothing that she had done to prepare herself for an attack by a witch, whether it was intended to harm or to embarrass. The dark was not to be feared anyway, it was a person’s mind and capabilities that was thoroughly fright-inducing. If she truly rationalized, and she did, she would come to the conclusion that this child was no match for a vampire of her age, witch or not. This girl was playing with fire, pardon the pun.
“I think you need to re-evaluate the situation, little girl.”
Katya almost growled, giving fair warning to the witch. If no one had to get hurt, then fine- but if the opposite had to happen, then so be it. Unlike other vampires, Katya didn’t have to worry about death by fire. Only by decapitation.
“You might be the one to end up afraid of the dark if you push your luck."
